Dubai's Umm Suqeim Street Undergoes Major $90 Million Upgrade for Improved Traffic Flow
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently announced an important development for the Umm Suqeim Street area. Following the guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a significant contract for the Improvement of Umm Suqeim Street Project has been awarded. With an investment of AED332 million, this project aims to upgrade the road network to support Dubai's continuous growth and to ensure a smoother flow of traffic.
The improvement, covering 4.6 kilometres from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, will include a range of enhancements. A key feature is the construction of an 800-meter-long tunnel near Kings School, which will have four lanes in each direction. Additionally, a new signalised surface intersection is planned.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the project's importance in enhancing connectivity across Dubai. The project aims to improve links between major traffic corridors such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. It is projected to increase road capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, reducing travel times and benefiting residential and development areas like Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, and Dubai Hills, which have a combined population of around two million people.
This project is a continuation of previous improvements in the area. In 2013, the RTA widened Umm Suqeim Street, adding bridges and pedestrian crossings to better connect Al Quoz and Al Barsha. In 2020, a significant bridge was opened near Dubai Hills Mall to facilitate traffic. Furthermore, last year, the RTA commenced the Hessa Street Improvement Project, further enhancing Dubai's road network.
This comprehensive upgrade of Umm Suqeim Street is expected to have a highly positive impact on the properties along the route. Improved accessibility and reduced travel times will likely enhance the desirability and value of residential and commercial properties in the area. This development is anticipated to attract more investors and residents, contributing to a vibrant community and fostering economic growth.
