In a significant development aimed at improving connectivity in Dubai, a new bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour and Emaar Beachfront is set to reduce travel times dramatically. Currently, a trip to the seafront district takes about 12 minutes, but thanks to this new 1,500-metre bridge, featuring two lanes in each direction, the journey will soon take just three minutes.
Mattar Al Tayer, the director-general and chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced that the bridge would provide a direct route to and from Dubai Harbour, efficiently handling up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. This infrastructure is designed to start from the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the American University in Dubai, stretching to Dubai Harbour Street, and passing significant intersections to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Abdulla Bin Habtoor, chief portfolio management officer at Shamal Holding, the entity behind Dubai Harbour, emphasized the bridge's role in facilitating effortless access to the area. He highlighted that this project underscores their dedication to creating exceptional residential and tourist communities within Dubai.
Dubai Harbour, positioned strategically between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, is a vibrant hub known for its attractions, including Skydive Dubai, which boasts a 770-metre-long runway. This bridge is poised to become a critical infrastructure piece, enhancing the connectivity and accessibility of one of Dubai's most sought-after destinations.
