Dubai reveals planned route of futuristic sky pod project

The route of Dubai’s sky pod transport system has been revealed by the city’s Roads and Transports Authority (RTA).

A map unveiled on the Dubai Media Office Twitter page shows the cable car style network will link Al Wasl with Business Bay area.

It will also cover other locations such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai International Financial Centre, Bay Avenue, Marasi Drive, across Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Wasl district, City Walk and the Coca-Cola Arena.

The system is described as "a cross between a monorail and a ski lift”.

There will be 21 stations in total linking “vital spots", according to the government.

The system will have the capacity to transit 8,400 riders per hour in each direction.

The sky pods will cover a 50km route.

The RTA confirmed last month a deal had been struck with Beem Car, a company that specialises in urban transport, to create the pods.

The sky pods occupy considerably less area than modes of transport of the same capacity, and use five times less power than electric vehicles.

Dubai is aiming to convert 25 per cent of total journeys in the city into autonomous journeys on various transit means by 2030.
